“The last two years has presented the greatest shock to physical retailing since rationing during the second world war. Prolonged lockdowns have acted as a catalyst for change in consumer behaviour with unprecedented shifts in footfall that is now being reflected in the usage of physical stores and destinations. I’m excited to be at Shoptalk Europe this year to understand how retailers are responding to these changes, and how they plan to adapt their propositions to meet the future demands of consumers.”
– Diane Wehrle, Marketing & Insights Director at Springboard

“I’m looking forward to sessions on the new retail organization and in particular those that address the need to work cross-functionally to create a cohesive shopping experience. To guarantee future success, retailers need to be customer-centric. And closer cross functional working with shared objectives will be at the heart of achieving this transformation.”

“2022 and beyond will see the world emerge from the pandemic but will the focus on stores continue? There is a need to blend technology into stores, but it just can’t be tech for tech’s sake, nor can online just be produced as the answer for every single challenge that retail faces. There is a real need for physical stores to be great and despite a few, lone voices saying this pre COVID, it’s become clear in the pandemic that the role of a good store has never been more important. I am encouraged by tech that is emerging to really improve things for the store associates; around the usage of AR for planograms and some of the digital improvements are also important. But tech just isn’t effective without solid retailing foundations delivered through effective training and relentless execution of the day to day. That remains as true as it ever was.”
